Essay Question: Interpret the following passage from the Tao de Ching:
Without opening your door, You can open your heart to the world. Without looking out your window, You can see the essence of Tao.
The more you know, The less you understand.
The Master arrives without knowing, Sees the light without looking, Achieves without doing a thing.
The reason this is so for the Master, is because there is no Master. This is what one cannot come to understand but to Know. This is why the more you Know the less you understand. The more one is aware of the essence of Tao, of Light the more aware you are, that you are not (D’oh!). Then there is the awareness that one has not ever done a thing and yet all things continue to happen. All the circular words become One pointed. All drawn to the Center. Go towards the Light is not out-ward, yet once aware; the outward is a reflection on/of the Light. The Search is over … You are found, not to be you at all, but Everything.
The riddles of words are no longer riddles or paradoxes, but bring smiles in the pointing back to the Center.
