The world wants conformity, your neighbors, your family, your friends all want you to conform. You know this, you know this because you know the ones that want it and so you find yourself with a few options: one you move away from them, two … they move away from you, three ... you try to be what they want and dance until you drop, or four ... you stand True in yourSelf discovering who you are moment by moment.
What scares those that demand or impose conformity … about your not conforming … are two things; one that they realize they cannot control you, even if they threaten your life ... they lose ... because you are willing to die to be who you Are. The other is because they do not know who they are and you are a reminder of that which frightens them. They want you to conform and be like they are being (believing) so that there are no ripples in the pond, so that they can pretend that they know who they are. In this they feel safe, that if you are like them (actually it is “if you believe like them”) then "we" will all be safe. The funny thing is that what "we" are all IN (at the CORE of us) is the same for everyone, but the conformity comes from the one that thinks it is an individual and that everyone should be like “it.”
If you look at the Great Teachers that have appeared in our world, they did not conform to the world, to any dictate, doctrine or religion, they walked, in a sense away from the world, discovered the Truth of Who they Are and returned to the world and relayed, pointed towards what they had Found/Discovered until they were either killed or died. Yet they were all willing to be killed or die. However, that doesn’t mean they were looking to be killed or to die, they were simply only willing.
People want to be told what to do so that they do not have to make any decisions for themselves. Ultimately, you do not need anyone to tell you what to do or what you should do, or what you will do, all you have to do is wait and see what you do. To be willing to be who you are at all costs is the Greatest Freedom one can have in this world.
The only thing left to discover is whether you are thinking you are the “individual” (which is not who you are, but contained in who you are) or the SELF, which all is contained in. This is the Gift of Freedom, the only True Freedom we have is ... where the attention is at; the noise of the world/thoughts/mind or the Stillness that all of that appears IN.
Who you Are is not individual, divisible, destroyable or touchable, it is the Greatest Freedom because it cannot be touched by this world and yet you can Know it while in the world. It is the discovery of our SAMENESS and then the enjoyment of our individuality. Yes it is a paradox one of GREAT JOY (pun intended)!
Animals are Great Teachers of our SAMEness. If you are willing to take the time and spend it with them you may discover that they are animated just like us (that which animates them animates you) except they are stripped of the personality. The personality of Humans can be very distracting when one is discovering that they are not the personality. Animals can and do Teach you what is a that CORE of us all if you are willing to pay attention, to begin to Hear with ears not trained for man-made words, if you are willing to see with Eyes that do not have expectation covering them. They LIVE in what most only speak of: The Present Moment. All this was discovered in spending time with a chicken. She revealed that she was not a label called "Chicken." She revealed that what animates her ... animates me. She no longer was a chicken or a bird or anything you could name even though her name is Marma. She is the SAME as I am (the SAME whatever, call it GOD/Energy/Love that animates her animates me, which is the same for everyone and everything). In this world, she appears as a bird and I appear as a human, but through my time with her there has been the discovery of our SAMENESS (call it Light, God, whatever). I would not have known this without my time with her; she has deepened it for me with all of life. She has shown me that being a chicken is not being "chicken" and I am less of a "chicken" because of knowing her ... more like a "free bird." :o))))
