Awareness is not about change. It is not about changing anything. Awareness is about paying attention to the moment you are in. Not the moment you want to be in or the moment you think might come, but the moment you are in, right now. Pay attention to what is going on around you right now. Usually, it will not be much. We overlook the simplicity of what is, because we pay more attention to the thoughts than what is "actually" happening. What is actually "happening" is usually quite simple.
Right now there is a quiet in the air, my dog Pete is making some funny little noises in his sleep that almost sound like comfortable complaints of deep sleeping, as if he is dreaming but not uncomfortably. There is a computer in front of this body and their are fingers moving along the keyboard. There is a light on over the stove that makes the artwork that is painted there by my landlord Betty look colorful and pretty. There are boxes all over from clearing out the storage unit and so there is a "feeling" of clutter about. Then there are thoughts floating by, one that says there is not time to type this there are other things to do. There are thoughts that are concerned about school work and money and what will be made for breakfast and what time will we take a walk and will there be people out and ... and ... and... these thought can begin to become endless, when being paid attention to...yet right now, the attention is drawn back to "Awareness." None of those thoughts are actually happening, what is actually happening is again what was described above, just a movement of the fingers on the keyboard and little noises of Pete and now the "ding" of a message incoming.
If one begins to see that the thoughts are lies, you can only do what you are doing, you cannot do more than one thing at a time, you might be "thinking" you are doing more than one thing, but you are only doing one thing, one movement, you can only pay attention to one thing, so you are either paying attention to the moment you are in, or you are paying attention to thoughts. As you begin to recognize this, you may begin to pay less and less attention to the thoughts, and more and more attention to the moment you are in. In this everything becomes simple Awareness.
