All thoughts corrupt; because all thoughts are lies. Really no more need be said. If you took this simple statement as Truth; you would give up the dependency upon thought and begin to experience life as it truly is and not how you think it is or how you think it should be. However, stating the obvious; does not make it obviously so.
We have become a society of people who have placed the intellect over what we intuitively know. Intuitively you know that *thinking* and *thought* are not necessary for you to function. In fact, they often inhibit the ability to function. This writing is not being thought. This writing is simply happening. Thoughts come after the fact. Energy pushes the words out and thought *thinks* it wrote them. How does one begin to see or know this for themselves? First, you must have the inclination to know and then you must devote yourself to that inclination. You become vigilant that above all else you want to know Truth. In the beginning, this is the most important. If you don't have vigilance, it will become a theory or a concept. You will say:
"Oh yes, I know what you are talking about."
But you will not have a single clue what is being talked about because you didn't discover it as Truth for yourself; you only discovered the idea, theory, concept. However, this is how life weeds out the serious from the merely curious. Vigilance is the Key. Life will not make it easy. It's not supposed to make it easy for you. However, it becomes the easiest thing ever, once you discover that it is True.
All thought corrupts.
I first heard this statement made by J. KRISHNAMURTI in a book titled “J. Krishnamurti: A Life” and although it is not necessary to read this book to discover where one is being Pointed, it is a very good book nonetheless. However, this writing is to see if one can be opened up enough to start to discover the Truth in this simple statement, not read about it, but Discover it for oneself.
For years my Teacher said to me, in many different ways, but most often directly stating:
"That's a thought."
I would come to him completely distraught about something and he would say:
"That's a thought."
Now if you have a relationship with a Teacher, it is not your typical run of the mill relationship. You will know this person is not lying to you, is not trying to deceive you ... even though they might do both, you intuitively know (without thought) that they have your best interest at Heart. I know this. I knew he wasn't lying to me or making fun of me. I also knew at the time that I didn't understand it. However, when he would say:
"That's a thought."
And the mind would go blank. All the drama and problems would momentarily dissolve and then *poof* it would all start back up again. But it was those breaks, those continuous breaks in the story, in the thoughts, that let just enough light in to eventually see what was in front of me; not what I *thought* was there. For many years, there was a struggle with racing thoughts. Millions and seemingly billions of them pouring into my head all at once; all the time. From the moment of waking, until it was time for sleep. I was always exhausted and could barely hear the sound of my own children's voices. Then by the Grace of God, I met myTeacher. It was and has continued to be a trial by fire. He burnt “me” up, but he burnt the "me" that I thought I was; the concept of “me” continues to burn in the discovery of who I truly Am. Now this doesn't mean that he answered the proverbial and actual door every time saying:
"That's a thought."
He has a bazillion ways of saying the same thing, without it sounding like the same thing, until you realize it's all the same thing and that is where:
"All thoughts corrupt; because all thoughts are lies.”
Comes in … because all thoughts corrupt! If you can begin to let in the possibility that all thoughts are lies, you will be well on your way to discovering the Truth in the statement:
"All thought corrupts."
If you *think* that you have important thoughts, then you have long tough road ahead of you no matter what. You may not even know how long or tough, until you get to the end, but eventually you will see the Truth in the statement.
Now, Let’s just assume, that you are quick on the uptake and are willing for the possibility that all thoughts are lies and that you have never had an important thought. Yes, it is understood that the whole of society is against you, but just stand there if you will, and for as long as you can; let it simmer and soak in you as a possibility. You don't have to accept it as fact, although if you do it only speeds up the process, but allowing the possibility; opens the mind enough for things to start being revealed to you. You will start to see that what you *think* will happen, often doesn't and what you *think* won't; does. You can't play this like a game. You can't use the Truth, but it will use you, as you become more and more willing to be used. It would be near impossible to discover this without a Teacher, so I don't know how far we can go with this writing, because the most important thing next to vigilance, in one’s discovery of Who they Truly Are is having a Spiritual Teacher; as they go hand in hand.
A Teacher, and that is with a capital “T” meaning that it is not a teacher like one has in a classroom at school (although it could appear to be that way), the Teacher that shows up is not there to “give” you something to “learn” they are actually there to take it away. Now, if you are Vigilant in the Commitment to discover the Truth of who you Are, the Teacher will show up. Even if you don't have a Teacher right now, the odds are, if something in here sparks Vigilance towards Truth, you will soon have a Teacher who will continue to reinforce this for you and eventually the statement:
All thought corrupts; because all thoughts are lies.
Will clear out the mind. It is not just what we call "bad" thoughts that corrupt, it is all thought. This again is why a Teacher is so important because you are programmed to go to the Mind for answers, you are programmed to go to the problem to find the solution, but the solution is not there. The Teacher will steer you away from the Mind. You cannot see the world, when you are thinking about it. Everything you think about the world is a lie. If you try to disprove this, all you will end up with is concepts and theories. You have to discover it. You don't discover it by trying to prove it wrong, you discover it by accepting it is True and then, in a sense, be on your knees with the Willingness to Know it is.
This all may sound very dramatic, but if you have found yourself knocking on Truth's Door something dramatic probably got you there. Truth doesn't appear for the faint of heart. It is not an easy road, if it were; everyone would be on it. Again, almost all of society is against the Truth. Even though flags are waved and many proclaim that it is the Truth that will set you free; those that proclaim and wave them haven’t discovered the Truth; it is the flag they hide behind. It does not make them bad people, they just *think* they are right. They *think* they know the Truth, but you can't know the Truth by thought. Truth is before thought. Truth is before thinking. Thinking only exists because of Truth, but humans are blinded by thought. Almost all see *thinking* as Truth and overlook TRUTH itself. Words can only go so far, because words are just like thoughts, in that they can point to Truth; but they cannot be it.
All thought corrupts. All thoughts are lies.
The biggest culprit of all the thoughts is the one called "I." It is the most misleading thought of all and the basis for all thought to be corrupt; because the thought "I" itself is a lie. Do you see how tricky this can become if you are trying to use the mind/thought/thinking to discover what is being shared? It is the willingness to allow for the possibility that "I" is the ultimate lie; that will eventually lessen your load, but at first, it will probably become unbearably heavy, because the "I" thought has so much weight to it. Don't take these words for it, go check it out for yourself. How many thoughts do you have that say:
"I" this and "I" that? “I” am good. “I” am bad. “I” am tired. “I” am happy. “I” am lonely.
Who is the “I?" <—Very important! (Don’t jump past this.)
If you discover this then the whole Foundation of Lies crumbles to dust, the Light appears and you are Free. The world is currently insane; simply because it thinks. When one claims “thought” higher than Reality; insanity ensues. A mind without thought; Sees things how are are and is sane. However, you cannot make thought disappear, you simply begin to see through it and this happens through Vigilance and the Commitment to Know.
